EL CAMINO DE SANTIAGO / THE WAY OF SAINT JAMES

More than 200,000 pilgrims from all five continents travel the Camino de Santiago each year.  This millenery route, which has become a global phenomenon, has all the ingredients of a good movie:

  • Real-life unpredictable characters who leave their everyday lives behind to journey in search of something more.
  • Drama:  Each leading character experiences personal trials, complete with physical and spiritual distress:  blisters, exhaustion, doubts.
  • The leading antagonist is “self-pity” and it assaults them at every step.
  • Setting:  The whole of Europe is marked with routes that lead to Santiago de Compostela.  The Northern Route – declared a World Heritage UNESCO site in 2015 – is the route the leading characters of FOOTPRINTS traveled.  They also explored the Lebaniega Route crossing the majestic Picos de Europa mountain range.

Our FOOTPRINTS are imprinted on the trails of Basque Country, Cantabria, Asturias, and Galicia.  Other routes travel through Cataluña, Navarra, Aragón, La Rioja. The Way of St. James/El Camino de Santiago begins at various sites throughout Spain, France, Portugal, and  the British Isles, and today new routes from as far away as Korea and Japan are being established. The routes rival each other in beauty but share the same end, the tomb of the apostle, St. James.
